I'm not a very picky guy. If there's something in the mainstream , I'll watch / listen to it. It doesn't really matter what kind of genre it is , or whether it's for females only - I'll still give it a shot and see if I like it. And that's exactly what happened.
NOTE : This is a review
Chick flicks - there are many out there. There's Pretty Little Liars , Revenge , and so many more . But somehow , I got addicted to binge watching Vampire Diaries , season after season. Whether or not you think the reasons that I'm going to give below are logically acceptable or just plain bias and stupid , it's all up to your own personal criteria and judgment .
To start things off , I'm not your typical "manly man" that can pack a punch , or even throw a punch. I don't listen to heavy metal to justify myself to being accepted as "cool" in the society. I'm not your typical "manly man" that cares about what kind of parts there are in a car and how much horsepower there is in it. No , I don't care.
I'm more of the feminine side of "man" , and that's totally fine with me. You can go ahead and judge , but that would make you a sad human being with the intentions of downgrading someone else to make yourself feel better , only because your life is a miserable wreck. And no , this has nothing to do with the fact of being gay or bisexual. Sexual preferences has nothing to do with this.
Granted , Stephan Salvatore ( played by Paul Wesley ) and Damon Salvatore ( played by Ian Somerhalder ) are really attractive and super hot guys , I mean - look below :
But there are many other things that are very unique about the whole Vampire Diaries series in general. The first would be the belief in mystical beings. Yes , vampire bats do exist , but do vampires exist ? There are many reports on the Internet about vampire sightings and such , but there really isn't any concrete evidence that a vampire has been spotted. Most of the pictures would feature a circle pointing to a blurry figure , claiming to be some kind of supernatural mythical creature. It appears every single time you search up anything out of the ordinary in general ~ werewolves ( which is in the series ) , Big Foot , Yeti , Slender Man ~ the list goes on , you get the point.
Like any other click flick out there , for instance - The Fault In Our Stars , VD features love , romance , kissing , sex and everything in between. It's just how it works. It's one of the ultimate clichés in every single chick flick that ever existed. Kind of like how jump scares happen in every single horror movie you watch - it's the same concept. But , that's just a small part in it for me.
There's the value of friendship , and being there and caring for the ones you love the most. How it feels to be betrayed by people you trust , sibling bonding , sibling rivalry , and falling for the wrong people . It basically portrays everything you'd encounter in life - except for the part where you turn into a werewolf under every full moon. If that happens to you , please see a witch doctor or a magician.
I'm pretty even Supernatural has all these elements , although I'm not entirely sure about vampires being in the series though - but Vampire Diaries does stand out as being an independent Tv series by itself. Maybe it has some same characteristics as Teen Wolf , but I don't recall there being any gay relationships in VD.
Besides an amazing storyline that is just very addictive and entertaining to keep up with , which is now in it's 7th season - so if you were to start watching it now , it won't really take a long time to catch up , unlike Supernatural which is in it's 11th season , the soundtrack is just beyond perfect. The show doesn't always use mainstream songs for each of their episodes . Instead , they find unique and well written songs from people that you've never even heard of before as a soundtrack for a single episode , and it is guaranteed to blow you away ! Here's sheer proof for you.
Girl Named Toby - Holding A Heart from Season 2 Episode 22 "As I Lay Dying"
Jason Walker - Echo from Season 3 Episode 2 "The Hybrid"
But to end it all up ( yes I'm sorry that this is a very simple post ) , VD is a really interesting series in a whole and you should definitely watch it if you haven't , well - if you're interested .

Jason Walker - Echo from Season 3 Episode 2 "The Hybrid"
The Fray - Never Say Never from Season 1 Episode 1 "Pilot"
There are MANY more beautiful songs from the series in general , those are just some of my favorite picks. The songs aren't just picked because they sound good , but they all have a specific meaning beyond the nice instrument plays and the vocals. The lyrics can literally speak to your soul.
As an existential person myself , these lyrics speak to me on a level that makes me realize how beautiful life is , and how short it is too. It tells me to make the most out of everything that I have now , to treasure everyone that's around me , because they're all mortal - and they will be gone one day. I've learned to treasure everything I have now on a deeper level , thanks to watching VD.
" Wouldn't that make you depressed ? "
Yes , I can get depressed thinking about life. I tend to cringe over things that happened in the past and if I had a time machine , I'd go back in time to change everything , even if it means disrupting the time line to the future . But VD made me see things in a different perspective , like I'm some sort of Reaper where I'm aware of the fact that everyone will just be gone one day , which is why I'm living the most out of life.
But to end it all up ( yes I'm sorry that this is a very simple post ) , VD is a really interesting series in a whole and you should definitely watch it if you haven't , well - if you're interested .
