My "How To" Guide #1 - Start A Blog

Before you start blogging, I want you to think about the things you like. Is there anything you actually enjoy or are really passionate about? If yes, then start a blog about it. When I started my first blog, I was really interested in writing about the things that go on in my life daily, so I picked that topic. It’s much easier to write articles and posts about something that you’re interested in.
It’s even better when you have been interested in a specific field or an industry for a long time, that makes you literally an expert. If you don’t like blogging about clothes, then simply don’t do it. You don’t have to blog about something you are not interested in. However, if you are interested in something – for example cars, then just blog about it! Of course, if you don’t have any idea or niche you want to write about, start blogging about your daily activities, memorable moments or simply about yourself.
Here are some of the most popular blogging topics in 2013:
  • Entertainment – It can either be something funny or just informative about latest movies, popular celebrities, television shows and/or music.
  • Health – In the busy world there aren’t just enough time for healthy lifestyle. That’s why many people read blogs about fitness and health. If you can provide valuable information on this topic, then this is a good way to start.
  • Fashion – Are you interested in different outfits, shoes and accessories? Well, many women all over the world are. Writing about latest trends in fashion can bring you a pretty decent amount of visitors as well.

Decide – Personal Domain or Not

Before you go on and start your blog, you need to know whether you want your own domain name or not. Keep in mind that domains will most likely cost about $5 – $10 a year. In addition, you will need a hosting that costs about ~$8 a month. If you don’t have the money, then start with free blogging platforms like blogger.com or tumblr.com. With these platforms you can not set your own address and your blog will be accessible from yourblog.blogspot.com or yourblog.tumblr.com.
However, I strongly advise you to get your personal blog on your own domain. Why? Well, free blogging platforms are not actually free. You will need to pay them in order to get new designs and there are many other limitations as well. For example, they can add unwanted ads to your blog while you are not able to do so. Furthermore, when one day you decide to move on and create your own domain, you are unable to take all the readers with you, because you don’t have control over your blog.

Choose a Domain Name and Hosting

Finding a great domain name can take a while, but it’s worth it. I suggest you to pick something brand able and simple to remember. Let’s say you are planning to start a fashion blog.www.bestfashionblog2013.org or www.all-about-latest-fashion-trends.com is not a great idea. Why so?
People simply cannot remember those domains and when they want to return they have already forgotten your domain name. It’s much better when you choose something memorable, such as www.fashionologie.com, www.vivalafashion.com or something like that. As an alternative, you can just use your personal name, for example: www.gregjslow.com
In short, domain should be:
  • Catchy
  • Easy to remember
  • Unique

  • Share:
